Situated at the heart of Wellow, we are just on the outskirts of the market town of Romsey; about six miles from Southampton and within easy reach of the New Forest and the coast. The school opened on 15th May 1876 with a roll of 82 children under the leadership of the first School Master, Mr Edward Treut.
Today, we have five classes consisting of girls and boys from 4 to 11 years of age.
The school is well resourced with a large well-equipped multi-purpose hall, a vibrant, new and well stocked library and extensive ICT facilities. We have two large outdoor hard playing areas, an additional playground for KS1 and almost an acre of field for play and sports activities with a variety of play structures. We have our own wildlife area for plant, insect, butterfly and pond life investigations as well as an outdoor stage.

A great deal has changed and improved here at Brighton Hill during the last two years and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and I are working very closely with our Governing Body, along with all staff here at school, to generate and maintain further high quality, sustainable improvements for the benefit of students and all members of our community.
Our school logo has been designed by two of our children. The school building shown in it is symbolic of our long tradition of high standards and our established standing in the community, and the figures, one big and one small, for the care and support shown by our older children and adults for the younger ones.
Our motto is “Working Together”.

Bishop Wordsworth’s School was founded in 1890 by John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury. When he established the school his intention was that it should offer a high quality education to boys within the confines of the Cathedral Close. Since then the school has grown – there are now nearly 900 11-18 year old boys on roll – but the school has remained true to its founder’s traditions by following three basic aims:
To encourage all our pupils to develop their potential to the full by setting themselves the highest standards of excellence and achievement;
To develop in all our pupils the integrity and the means to face confidently the challenges of a fast changing world;
To inspire all our pupils to lead happy, purposeful and responsible lives.
