Description

Mountbatten SchoolThe school is situated in Romsey, a very pleasant abbey town in the southern Test Valley. Opened in 1969 and built on land formerly in the ownership of Earl Mountbatten's Broadlands Estate, the school enjoyed the patronage of Lord Louis until his demise. We are honoured that the Lord Brabourne continues in this role.

The school is one of the largest and most successful co-educational comprehensives in Hampshire. Our intake is 284, and there are currently 1420 students on roll.

The school is one of the largest and most successful co-educational comprehensives in Hampshire. Our intake is 284, and there are currently 1420 students on roll.

The school serves a predominantly rural catchment area extending from the boundary of Southampton to the boundary of Wiltshire. We are the larger of two secondary schools in the town. The school is very popular and heavily oversubscribed.

Headteacher Heather McIlroy has been in post since September 2007. From September 2011 the leadership team will also comprise three Deputy Heads (Standards and Strategic Developments, School Improvement, and Teaching and Learning), and two Assistant Headteachers (Data and Progress, and Student Services), and a Director of Finance and Resources.

The school is organised into eight faculties (with approximately 80 FTE teaching staff), and the pastoral structure is based on five Year groups. In addition to our dual designation as both a Language and Sports College, the School has a number of national awards. These include Lead Behaviour School, the Eco Green Flag Award, full International School Award, Artsmark Gold, and HPSS status. The Mountbatten School became an Academy on 1 April 2011.
